A YOUTHFUL Warrington Wolves Reserves side succumbed to a more experienced Wakefield Trinity outfit on Friday night.

With several of the players they would usually call upon away on representative duty for the Academy Origin series, The Wire named seven first-year academy players in their 17-man squad.

As such, they were beaten 26-10 at Victoria Park by a Wakefield side that included former Wire winger Tom Lineham as well as fellow first-team players such as Eddie Battye, Yusuf Aydin and Thomas Minns.

Jacob Gannon and James Hartill were try-scorers for Danny Evans’ side, with Lewis Hughes adding a conversion.

“After a game you should never be pleased with a loss, but credit to our guys who never stopped battling against a more mature side that had a lot of Super League experience,” head coach Evans said.

"We had eight players playing Academy Origin rugby who we were unable to call upon, but we were still able to select a team capable of competing.

“It was a tough game for our boys, but we never stopped having a go.

“All-in-all, we were disappointed with the result but a big pat on the back to the lads for effort.”

The next reserve team fixture is away at Leeds Rhinos on Saturday, May 28.
