RICHARD Egington turned record-breaker on his way to victory at Henley Royal Regatta on Sunday.
The former Warrington Rowing Club star, racing in a Leander Club and Molesey Boat Club composite with Great Britain’s men’s four crewmates Alex Gregory, Tom James and Matthew Langridge, defeated a strong American crew by more than two lengths in the Stewards’ Challenge Cup final.
They improved a near two-decades old course record by three seconds during a race in which they were never headed.
“It was never going to be a smooth row down this water but we performed well,” said the 31-year-old afterwards.
“We go to Lucerne now on the back of a really good win.”
The quartet, world champions in 2009, travel to Switzerland for the final regatta in the World Cup series at the end of this week.
