LAST season’s two leading goalscorers are among the first players who have committed to staying with Warrington Town.

Frontmen Jordan Buckley and Josh Amis look set to be part of Mark Beesley’s squad for the 2022-23 season having agreed terms to remain at Cantilever Park.

Yellows are understood to have fought off significant interest from higher-ranked clubs to retain Buckley, who netted 19 goals to take Town to the brink of promotion only to lose 2-1 to Scarborough Athletic in the Northern Premier League Premier Division play-off final.

Amis, who captained the side on several occasions during his fourth season at the club, scored during that game and bagged 12 goals overall for the campaign.

They will be joined next season in Beesley’s front line by Michael Howard, who will join the club on a permanent basis from Skelmersdale United.

Howard joined Town on a dual-registration agreement during the latter stages of last season but United’s run to promotion from the North West Counties League Premier Division prevented him from turning out for Warrington.

The former Marine man netted more than 30 goals as Skelmersdale earned their place in the NPL West Division for next season.

It is believed more retentions and new signings will be announced in the coming days and weeks, with season tickets also soon to go on sale.

Last week, the club confirmed the nine pre-season friendlies it will play through July and early-August before the new campaign gets underway on Saturday, August 13.
