YOUNGSTERS from Warrington RUFC got a memorable taste of what life is like at the top of the game recently.

The club’s under 9s team were lucky enough to play a match on the pitch at the AJ Bell Stadium, home of Premiership side Sale Sharks.

The team played at half time of the Sharks’ clash with Wasps earlier this month and were watched by thousands of spectators.

Russell Welch, father of one of the players and owner of team sponsors X-Press Legal Services, said it was an experience the players would never forget.

“It was a great chance for the team to experience playing on a big pitch in front of large crowds – definitely a claim to fame,” he said.

“They all had a great time, displaying fantastic sportsmanship. They also all loved watching the live match as many had never been to a live rugby game before.

“As the team’s sponsor, it was wonderful to see the team given such an amazing opportunity – one that they will never forget.

“There were three coach loads of players and parents who all left the game with a smile on their faces.

“The initiative is a great way to further encourage a love for the game from a young age, whilst demonstrating the potential career paths in professional sport to young people throughout the region.”

The team is currently gearing up for a tour of Yorkshire to play against teams from across the country.
