WARRINGTON RUFC’S under 12s are heading to Twickenham!

In what was their first competitive tournament, the team lifted the Sale Sharks – Land Rover Cup on Sunday to earn the prize of a VIP day at the Premiership Final on Saturday, June 18.

Having advanced through the pools and knockout phases, they saw off a strong Macclesfield outfit in the final to ensure the trophy came back home with them to Warrington.

Their superb efforts saw them concede just two tries in their six matches, scoring 18 at the other end.

“Under 12s rugby is the first age that teams get to experience a properly competitive tournament,” the team’s coach Dominic Hastings said.

“We’ve had the core of this team since under 5s and they’ve all waited patiently for this day.

“To be able to test themselves against the best teams in the north west was huge for the boys and to go on and win the competition was just amazing.

“The boys work so hard in training and in games and all credit goes to them, we won the final 2-1 after being 1-0 down.

“Their desire and the way they play for each other makes them an absolute pleasure to coach.”

The team secured victories over Ormskirk (6-0), Old Brods (5-1) and Wilmslow (3-0) before a nail-biter in the final pool match against Wigan, which they won 1-0 with a try in the game’s final play.

That secured a semi-final clash with Caldy, which they edged in similarly nervy fashion 1-0 to set up their final clash with Macclesfield.

They fell behind to just the second try they had conceded all day but two incredible long-distance scores turned the match around.

Warrington were camped on their own line for the final few minutes but were able to see off wave after wave of pressure to hold out for a memorable victory.
