JAMIE McDonald has returned to Warrington Town.

The striker has returned to Cantilever Park to bolster Paul Carden's attacking ranks after spending the early part of this season playing in the North West Counties Football League for Lower Breck, for whom he has scored nine goals in 19 games this campaign.

McDonald spent the 2017-18 campaign with Yellows, finishing as the club's top goalscorer with 17 goals as he played a key role in the team's run to the Northern Premier League Premier Division play-offs and the last-16 of the FA Trophy.

He dropped back down the footballing pyramid to rejoin former club City of Liverpool but his arrival boosts a strikeforce which is set to be without top scorer Jordan Buckley for several weeks.

"It’s good to get him back," manager Carden said.

"I’ve always kept in touch with Jamie and he’s always insinuated that he’d like to come back.

"I just thought with where we’re at and the type of dressing room we’ve got, he’ll fit in great with the lads.

"He’s different to what we have and he can play with any of the forwards we’ve got.

"We know he’s more than capable at this level. He was unfortunate last time he was here with moves into the league falling through, and it did affect him.

"It’s good to have him back – he trained with us on Tuesday and last night and he’s buzzing for it."

Town have also confirmed they have recalled defender Evan Gumbs from his loan spell at Runcorn Linnets.

The former Tranmere Rovers man has been working his way back from serious injury at the NPL West Division side, for whom he has made nine appearances.

Both Gumbs and McDonald are available to feature for Yellows when they travel to Mickleover tomorrow.
