THERE were age group victories for all three Warrington Athletics Club members running in the Lancaster Half Marathon.

Paul Bagan, Louise Blizzard and Mervyn Ward were all the fastest runners in their age groups, with the latter even winning a Northern Masters Championship gold medal.

Bagan came home fourth overall in a time of 1hour 19mins 7secs, which was enough to see him claim the over 40s first prize while Blizzard was the first woman aged over 45 to cross the line – she came 22nd overall in 1hour 31mins 32secs.

As neither are members of the Northern Athletics Club, they were not eligible for Northern Masters medals.

However, Ward claimed gold in the over 65s age group as he finished just behind Blizzard in 24th place, clocking 1hour 31mins 49secs.

Elsewhere, there was a Warrington 'one-two' at the Pie and Peas multi-terrain five-mile race in Moulton, with Colin Bishop winning the over 60s age group ahead of clubmate Steve Burthem.

Bishop was ninth overall in 29mins 49secs while Burthem came home 37th in 33mins 6secs.

The duo were also in action at the Sale Sizzler 5km road race as Bishop picked up another over 60s win by completing the course in 17mins 40secs.

Burthem was third in the over 60s as he clocked 19mins 49secs.

Also competing in Sale was youngster Jordan Jones, who finished third in the under 20s age group and 13th overall after completing the course in exactly 16 minutes.

Another age group win was recorded by Steve Watmough, who was the fastest over 55s runner at the AVR Westbury 5km road race – he clocked 16mins 43secs to come home 17th overall.

Meanwhile, four Warrington AC members were in action at Trafford's distance grand prix – and three of them came away with personal bests.

Over 800m, Esme Heavey set a new best time of 2mins 28.12secs in finishing sixth in the under 15s while under 20s runner Rachel McQuillan was third in her race in a personal-best 2mins 20.03secs.

In the 3,000m, Brandon Quinton lowered his personal best to 8mins 42.94secs as he came second in his under 20s race while Dave Norman came home 12th in the over 60s, clocking 10mins 42.54secs.
