TWO Warrington high schools are among those to directly benefit from the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.

Birchwood Community High School and St Gregory’s Catholic High School have been awarded grants by RLWC2021’s CreatedBy scheme.

St Gregory’s have been awarded £3,200 to help support extra-curricular rugby league activities at the school, including among pupils with special educational needs.

Birchwood have received £2,400 for kit and equipment to create two girls and two boys teams at the under 14s and under 16s age groups.

The grant awarded to Birchwood will also help in delivering after-school sessions in partnership with the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation.

These latest awards total more than £200,000, taking the grand total of small grants to community rugby league clubs and related organisations to more than £1.4million.

“Our CreatedBy grants programme amounts to an unprecedented level of investment in the game, with many awards having an immediate and important impact at grassroots level,” RLWC2021 chief executive Jon Dutton said.

“We look forward to announcing more funding support in the very near future.”
