ARRAN McCabe’s best figures of the season led a superb Grappenhall bowling effort as their first team got themselves back in the hunt for promotion.

McCabe claimed 4-38 as the pace bowlers dominated Urmston, with Sam Guest picking up three wickets as the visitors were dismissed for a below-par 131.

Grappers’ chase was emphatic as they reached their target for the lost of just two wickets with 26 overs to spare, with Pete Barnes batting patiently for a crucial 42 to see them home.

The seconds’ promotion hopes took a hit as they lost to Lindow having posted 181-7 batting first, with the returning Jack Critchley hitting 42 in the middle order.

Fameesh Azeez picked up two wickets with the ball, but Lindow reached their target to secure a four-wicket win.

There was long-awaited joy for the thirds as they picked up their first win of the year against Stockport Georgians.

Four wickets from 15-year-old James Knowles helped Grappers bowl their visitors out for 166 before contributions right down the batting order saw them knock the runs off for a four-wicket win.

Meanwhile, it was a great weekend for Warrington Cricket Club with both the firsts and seconds posting wins.

An unbeaten 54 from Pat Tyrell and 46 from Jonathan Fletcher helped the firsts post 199-7 batting first against Davenham at Walton Lea.

It proved to be a winning score as three wickets from Jake Liddle and two each for James Rudd, Chai Gadepalli and Umer Zeb helped dismiss the visitors for 140 in reply.

The seconds also faced their Davenham counterparts and Shoaib Ahmed’s five-wicket haul helped them dismiss their visitors for 155 in the first innings.

With the bat, Warrington then reached their target for the loss of just three wickets, with Mahtab Alam top-scoring with 57 while Paolo Manfredi and James Lewis finished unbeaten on 35 and 33 respectively.
