STEVE Price says Warrington Wolves will get “a huge amount of belief” from their victory at St Helens.

A brilliant defensive display earned The Wire a fourth consecutive win over their neighbours as their tryline remained intact.

Ben Currie’s first-half try proved enough for victory – one Price described as among his best in Super League since taking charge in 2018.

Now, though, he has challenged his side to find that kind of form on a more consistent basis.

“We’ve got a huge amount of respect for St Helens and they’re champions for a reason,” he said.

“I thought we dominated the first half in terms of field position but it flipped around after half time.

“We had to defend our try line for a number of sets but I was super proud of the boys. We showed a huge amount of resilience to keep turning them away.

“There were some huge game-changing moments – Blake Austin and Jake Mamo putting Welsby into touch for example.

“There were some wounded boys out there but they kept finding away, so I’m very proud of them.

“We know what it looks like when we are like that. It’s about doing that on a consistent basis, week in week out.

“That’s where we want to get to. That’s the level of consistency we’re chasing.”

While Warrington would perhaps have been disappointed not to have gone into half time further ahead, there was no doubt the second half was almost all one-way traffic.

Saints threw everything at them in attack, but the primrose and blue line held firm, led by a nerveless display from Stefan Ratchford at full-back having recovered from a heavy blow to the back early in the game.

“I thought he was great tonight. He came up with some really big plays,” Price said of his number one.

“He was playing busted as he copped a heavy knock in the back early in the game, but it shows what kind of player he is.

“They’re a quality team with a strong back five.

“The great teams rely heavily on their back five, we have to do a really good job around that and our boys deserve a big rap for it.

“We had to just keep turning them away and we can get a huge amount of belief out of that.”

Price also moved to rubbish speculation that scrum-half Gareth Widdop was set for an immediate return to the NRL.

He said: "There’s been a bit of speculation about but Gareth Widdop is a contracted player to Warrington Wolves and he won’t be going anywhere this year."
