TONY Gray says Warrington Town’s injury crisis has brought the squad closer together.

Yellows have been hit by several key absences in the early stages of the season, with the likes of Steve Jennings, Jack Dunn and Jack Mackreth spending time on the sidelines.

Despite this, Paul Carden’s side have enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign and are unbeaten since their opening-day defeat to Morpeth Town.

That includes progress in the FA Cup as they romped to an emphatic 4-0 victory at City of Liverpool in Tuesday’s FA Cup first qualifying round replay – a game in which Gray scored.

Gray believes Town are now playing with much more cohesion ahead of a trip to newly-promoted Radcliffe on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

“We were massively disappointed with the first game,” he said.

“I don’t think they were great but we just didn’t seem to get going.

“Since then, it’s been much better and there’s a bit more cohesion about the squad despite the injuries. We just need to push on now.

“I’ve played in a few squads that have been severely injury-hit and it seems to bring the group together. That’s what’s happening here.

“We’ve just got to work hard, stick to the plan and it will carry on coming together.”

His goal on Tuesday was the 35-year-old’s second of the season having hit the net 18 times in the last campaign.

Gray and new signing Matty Chadwick – who has four goals thus far – have shown signs of a promising partnership and the former is happy to stay off the scoresheet if the results keep coming.

“I think I was due a shot, never mind a goal,” he joked.

“As long as the team keeps winning, I’m happy whatever happens with me. I know it’s a cliché but that is all that matters.

“How many goals I score never really comes into my head. We’ve certainly not spoken about it as strikers.

“His (Chadwick’s) movement is very good so he’s good to play with. It’s only early days of us playing together but it’s looking promising.”
