WITH four points gained over two games, Warrington Town boss Paul Carden is happy with his side’s lot over the Bank Holiday weekend.

However, it may have come at a cost as the club’s mounting injury list continued to grow.

Monday’s 3-1 win over Bamber Bridge followed a 0-0 draw at Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday as Town notched both their first home win and clean sheet of the new campaign.

Given the result, the sweltering conditions and the amount of injuries his side have, Carden says he was happy enough to give his players “a walkover” for a performance he thought was not up to standard at times on Monday.

Having already lost Steve Jennings to injury on Saturday and with goalkeeping coach James Speare having to be named on the bench, Town also lost Josh Amis on Monday as well as Louis Barnes to a red card.

“I said after the Gainsborough game that a point was only a good point if we got three on Monday, and we did,” he said.

“We didn’t play well. We weren’t free-flowing but we just had better players that were better in key moments.

“I thought we had spells of reasonable control but a few players were off it.

“The conditions were really hot and we didn’t have too many options to change it, so I gave the lads a bit of a walkover for their performance.

“We are really down to the bones injury wise.

“We had to have James Speare on the bench on Monday. Dylan Vassallo was on the bench when the reality is he was nowhere near fit to come on.

“Josh Amis went off at half-time with a back spasm then Louis Barnes compounds it with a self-inflicted injury by getting sent off.”

In terms of Saturday’s game, Carden accepted a draw was the right result but insists his side need to do better in terms of adjusting to changes of shape.

“Injuries disrupted us – we lost Jenno who was running the game,” he said.

“We had to change our shape a little bit and we need to improve on adjusting to losing players.

“Even though a draw was probably the right result, we were the better team on Saturday.

“We controlled the game for long spells, especially in the first half.

“We had opportunities but with a bit more quality in the final pass and better decisions, opportunities turn into chances.

“I’d have taken a point and a clean sheet before the game. We didn’t set out for a point, but I would have taken it because I know that’s going to be a tough game to go.”
