STUART Hutcheson was happy he took the time to read his licence to discover he had won last year’s Stocking Fund Draw - a very welcome £200.

All he has to do now is convince his wife it can only be spent on fishing tackle.

Last weekend our volunteers were out on a netting job in Wales for fish designated for our Offa’s Dyke Fisheries.

They collected 421lbs of mixed skimmers, rudd, roach and a handful reasonably-sized bream.

The fish will add to existing stocks, which include bream, tench and carp, and should provide decent sport in the pools that are set in picturesque surroundings.

Tim Long enjoyed a good session on the Macclesfield Canal at Scholar Green when he caught 34 roach, with the majority a six to 8oz stamp and three around 1½lbs.

He reckons it was easy fishing, nothing technical - just pole and loose-fed maggot down the track.

He rounded off a late-afternoon session with a well-earned pint at the nearby Rising Sun.

Members are missing out on potentially good sport by ignoring this canal fishery.

Lennie Dutton was the winner of our latest disabled and over 60s match, fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Keckwick.

The good news is there were plenty of small fish and, after an absence in most parts of the canal, good numbers of gudgeon were showing up in catches.

Our victor put 5-3-14 on the scales, followed in second place by Graham Belton's haul of 3-11-4.

Pole-fished pinky, or bread punch, was the general method.

Please note the farmer has put a lock on the gate at C&D Pools (Fosters Pools) in Wigan as he now has cattle in the field.

That means there's is no access to our car park for the time being.

However I understand Malpin, which is just down the road, produced some half-decent roach, rudd and perch - plus a bonus chub - for Chris Connel.

He had 25 fish, all taken on float-fished maggot.

Keep sending your catch reports - it's great to let fellow members know how our waters are fishing - by email to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or call me on 01928 716238.

Our association headquarters at Parker Street are open every Friday, between 7pm and 9pm, for night-permits, membership-renewals, subscriptions and any queries.
