DESPITE the unsettled weather, Jim Connor managed to chance a three-hour afternoon session on the River Dane at Holmes Chapel.

Not expecting to break any records, he was pleasantly surprised on his third trot down to see his float dip, resulting in a grayling of around a pound.

Four others of a similar stamp fell to his loose-fed maggots until the swim died and Jim decided it was time to head for home.

Appleton Reservoir continues to be the main water, providing any regular stillwater action where pole, waggler and tip methods are producing decent roach sport. Maggot is the favoured bait.

Al Morris won our Mersey Series match on Sunday in what were testing conditions with a weight of 2lbs 7ozs 4drs of small roach taken on groundbait feeder and maggot.

Ant Higham, aka ‘King of the River,’ was in second place with 1-14-0 of roach.

A change of venue to our Woodshaw Reservoir fishery for the disabled and over 60s series saw match organiser Jimmy Byrne clock up another win with a weight of 8-2-0 made up of roach and a bonus carp. John Mills was in second place with 4-11-0.

There was no swimming prize, but after the match Graham Belton got off his box (with umbrella attached) to put his rods away in his holdall when a sudden gust of wind took hold. I know that you are ahead of me but it gets worse.

The box sailed into the drink but unfortunately, the catches were open so the contents were distributed throughout his peg.

Gritting his teeth, he salvaged what he could, although his third place winnings would hardly pay for what was lost.

Please note that, before venturing onto our fisheries, all members must attach a current signed identity photograph on the rear inside cover of their membership book to enable bailiffs to identify persons on our waters.

This is to stop the ‘lending’ of books by a few who may wish to chance their arm and cheat fellow members. This condition also applies for any replacement.

Please send any catch reports to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a call on 01928 716238.

WAA headquarters at 52 Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7pm and 9pm for 2018 night permits/membership renewals, new members, subscriptions, and any queries.
