CONGRATULATIONS are owed to Dan Anderson, who caught a cracking mirror carp last weekend from our Association-owned lake at Sandiway.

The stunning-looking fish weighed 36lbs.

Good publicity not only encourages existing members, but it also attracts new ones that help fund our stocking programme.

Stuart Peters fished our stretch of the River Wye on Saturday and reports catching only one barbel, using halibut pellet, before a change to maggot and hemp in the feeder drew a bite every chuck.

He netted loads of dace, chublets, grayling and a handful of larger chub plus a couple more barbel for good measure.

Lenny Dutton, famous for his end-peg draws, pulled out another one from the bag for our disabled and over 60s match on the Bridgewater Canal at Preston Brook.

He made the most of it too with a winning net of roach and skimmers for 6-15-0.

Our Mersey Series match on Tuesday was won by Baz Chambers with 8-5-0 on roach and perch caught fishing the pole and casters.

Only an ounce behind, Rod Frazer and Derek Bibby shared the runners-up prize after landing identical weights.

Jim Gannon tackled a flooded River Mersey during our Saturday event using his favourite groundbait feeder and maggot method.

The result was a deserved win with a haul of 5-7-0 that included skimmers, roach, and perch.

And that figure could easily have been doubled had he lost lost a 6lbs bream at the net, but that’s fishing.

Alan Morris fished the same method to finish in second place with 4-1-0.

Bob Clough had 5lbs to spare when he won our Mersey match on Sunday with a weight of 11-6-0 that included two, 3lbs bonus-bream plus roach and perch taken on groundbait feeder and maggot.

Following his success the previous day Jim Gannon was in the frame again, this time taking the runner-up spot with 6-6-0.

Our headquarters at Parker Street are open every Friday, between 7pm and 9pm, for memberships, subscriptions, night-permit renewals and any queries.
