NEWCOMER Tony Koziol decided on Cicely Mill Pool for a first outing since the ink dried on his membership card.
He did not keep a tally, but estimates he may have landed more than 80 fish - among them roach, a few perch and the odd skimmer - during a day-long session.
Most of those came to maggot, while the odd one fell to caster and bread.
Former association vice-president Geoff Brooks put together a net of small roach, in addition to a bonus 2lbs bream, to triumph in our disabled and over 60s match on the Bridgewater Canal at Pickering’s Bridge.
His winning weight of 3-8-6 left Alan Brown to again take second spot with 2-14-3.
Committee member Ade Green has been knocking on the door for a while, and this week it opened with a well-deserved Mersey Series win.
He put together an all-roach haul on pole and maggot for 7-7-0.
Jimmy Byrne took the runner-up spot with a roach and perch catch, using the same method, that weighed in at 6-13-0.
Ray Boden took overall honours again in our Mersey Series match the following day, putting a catch of mainly roach – plus a dozen perch – on the scales for 10-0-0.
He stuck to a winning formula of pole and maggot.
Jim Gannon was second using a groundbait feeder and maggot, boosting a net of small roach and perch with a welcome bonus 5lbs bream for a total of 7-3-0.
On the Tuesday, Ray again took home the money with a weight of 5-2-0 made up of roach, perch and the welcome sight of a 2oz skimmer bream.
Our association headquarters at Parker Street open every Friday, between 7pm and 9pm, for memberships, subscriptions, night-permit renewals and any queries.
