THE Northern Angling Show last weekend just gets better year on year and it was a pleasure being there with our ‘show team’ chatting to current and welcoming new members to Warrington Anglers’ Association.

The craic was great and non-stop throughout the two hectic and tiring days but nevertheless, everyone is already planning for next year’s event.

Without exception, we all ended up buying some tackle although I am not at liberty to mention individual purchases on the off chance that their wives may read this column!

I visited Grey Mist on Tuesday afternoon and watched with envy as Chris Neden landed three superbly-conditioned tench including one of 7lbs 1oz 0dr. He was feeder fishing using red maggot and ended his session with ten fish.

A couple of pegs away, Rob Robinson caught two fish over 7lbs and, as I watched, lost a third fish at the net.

On my way from the Mist, I ended up chatting for a few minutes to Jamie Light when I dropped in conversation that Chris had caught ten tench from the Boathouse peg and was packing up as I left.

The result was that the peg produced another eight tincas for Jamie including a new personal best of 7-12-0 taken on the same tactics.

Eric J Smith managed to get four hours on his favourite Cicely Mill Pool on Sunday afternoon in company with his grandson Callum.

Eric landed three crucians, all over 2lbs, and Callum only one fish but a new PB of 2-1-0. Method was method feeder tactics, a wafter hook bait, and hemp seed over the top.

There are no prizes for guessing the bait this week’s winner of our Disabled and Over 60s match was using as it is rumoured he is a part owner of a large national bakery.

George Barber fished pole and punch bread for a weight of 2-9-0 of small roach, followed in second place by Bud Lea with 2lbs dead.

WAA Headquarters at 52 Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 and 9pm for new members, subscriptions, night permit renewals, and any queries.
