This is how we reported Warrington Wolves' astonishing club-record win against Swinton Lions on this day 10 years ago
IF you correctly predicted Wolves’ result against Swinton, please send in details of this Saturday’s winning National Lottery numbers.
The chances of being correct must be about the same.
Friday night’s astonishing Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth round tie was always going to be about ‘how many’ rather than ‘who will win’ – that is the nature of the beast when a Super League side faces Championship One opposition.

But scoring 28 points more than any Warrington team has before was unimaginable.
Tony Smith’s supermen hardly put a foot wrong all night.
They went ahead after only 84 seconds, avoided the trap of overplaying in order to hold on to possession for long periods, did not concede a penalty until the 36th minute and went on to record their third successive ‘nilling’.
Chief beneficiaries were Lee Briers with his record-breaking haul of three tries and 16 goals, Joel Monaghan with four tries as well as Chris Riley and Garreth Carvell with hat-tricks. For Carvell, it was his first triple since 2002 when he was with Hull.

Ryan Atkins and Chris Bridge both marked their 150th career appearances with tries among the 20 scored in total.

Ben Westwood’s double leaves him one short of the magic ton in first-team action at club and inter-national level.

Warrington were ruthless throughout, played some breathtaking rugby and responded to the crowd urging them to the 100-point mark.
Steve McCormack’s side had no answer to the power, speed and skill of the Super League leaders, who showed no mercy from start to finish.
If you are going to break records, you may as well do it in style and that is what Smith’s side did on Friday.
INTERESTING NOTES
