STOCKTON Heath shot put star John Nicholls won his event as Sale Harriers Athletics Club reached the final of the Golden Jubilee Cup on Sunday.
Nicholls, who gained a silver medal at the European Veterans Championships in Poland last weekend, threw 14.35m to clinch victory in the open age shot put event and help his club win the overall competition in Stoke.
That allowed them to qualify for the final in Bedford on August 19, which could yet be the last event of Nicholls' career, with the 40-year-old still considering whether to retire this year.
