CINNAMON Brow golfer Rob Turner became the first junior to win the Birchwood Golf Club Championship at the weekend.
The 19-year-old junior captain shot rounds of 76 and 72 to fend off competition from several older members of the club.
He said: "I was ecstatic because it was something I've always wanted to win.
"Andy Stokes was second and it went down to the last hole."
The scratch golfer, who also finished second at a recent pro-am event at Mossock Hall near Skelmersdale, will return to Florida in three weeks to continue his golf scholarship at Webber International University.
Meanwhile, Birchwood pairing William Shepherd and Brian Atkins have been joined by clubmates Mervyn and Stephen McPherson in the semi finals of the International Pairs event.
The two pairs were the joint winners of a competition at Birchwood and will now compete for a place in the final at St Andrews Bay Golf Club and Carnoustie.
