TWO members of the same family were among the Warrington Gymnastics Club competitors who were crowned champions in a regional event at the weekend.

Brother and sister Joe and Kara Heaton came out on top of their sections in the North West Junior Champions tumbling competition in Liverpool.

Joe, who also plays rugby league with the Burtonwood Bulldogs under nines team, became under 10s north west champion after succeeding in the regional level C section in his first gymnastics competition.

Kara was crowned north west under 12s champion after winning in the national level three 10 to 11 years category.

Warrington Gymnastics Club chief Sandi Gore said: “To have two champions from one family on the same day I thought was quite extraordinary.”

Also at national level three, Bex Welsby was champion in the 12 to 14 years band and Hollie Livesey took the silver medal in her first competition for the club.

Georgina Scott was champion at national level four with teammate Samantha McCormick taking silver.

Warrington gymnasts were also champions at national level two, with Kyra Allen taking the 10 to 11 years title and Esme Littlefair collecting the 12 to 14 years prize.

Another newcomer, Len Izzard, competed alongside Joe Heaton and gained the silver medal, while Joseph Mullaly also received silver in the 12 to 14 years group.

Jessica Maio, Lucy Costello and Katy Johnson were also selected to represent Warrington in the event but finished outside of the medals.
