WARRINGTON Town have secured back-to-back away wins, with skipper Josh Amis netting twice.

Yellows ran out 3-1 victors at Gloucester City in Vanarama National League North and the writing was on the wall for the hosts after Town took an early lead.

For Mark Beesley’s men are not in the habit of losing games after scoring first.

They’ve not lost a league game in such circumstances since a 2-1 defeat at Hyde United in February 2022.

This is the 37th time they have scored first since then and in the previous 36 they have gone on to win on 31 occasions.

Connor Woods’ goal inside three minutes set them on their way and Amis' first put the Yellows 2-0 up at half time against a team who finished in the play-off places last season.

The hosts did pull a goal back through on-loan Birmingham City forward Ben Beresford early in the second half but Amis’ header killed the game as a contest.

After an impressive 4-1 showing on their last away trip to Bishop’s Stortford, the Yellows again got off to a great start as Woods fired a low shot in from the edge of the box.

Much of the early stages of the game was played in the midfield, with Gloucester’s best chance falling to an improvised effort by Harry Emmett, acrobatically tipped against the cross bar by Dan Atherton.

The Yellows played the artificial pitch at Gloucester’s Tiger Turf Stadium well and the second was testament to that - Sean Williams measured through ball releasing Amis through on Zach Jeacock and the skipper slotted home at the near post.

Although Beresford poked a goal back from Jamie Reckford’s low cross, Andre Wisdom kept the troops marshalled well at the back for Town.

Gloucester had a 10-minute spell where they threatened without creating anything clear cut, until the Yellows got hold of the game again.

And they made the points safe 22 minutes from the end, a direct run by Isaac Buckley-Ricketts opening up the defence for Woods to plant a cross on the head of Amis for 3-1.

The only downside was a late yellow card for Williams, who will now miss the next league game against Rushall Olympic through suspension.
