IT was a victory to start pre-season for Warrington Wolves, but it appeared to come at a cost.

Perhaps the biggest live concern is the red card shown to new signing Josh McGuire for dissent during the later stages of their 22-10 victory over Leigh Centurions.

While the facts are still being established, there will no doubt be concerns about the Australian’s availability for the Round One clash with Leeds Rhinos on February 16.

Friendlies can count as part of suspensions so any penalty handed down by the Match Review Panel can be served in next week’s game against North Wales Crusaders.

The more immediate concern to head coach Daryl Powell, however, is a broken hand for prop Gil Dudson which looks set to rule him out of the season’s early rounds.

“Gil Dudson’s broken his hand so I’m not sure how long he’s going to be out,” Powell said.

“He may well need an operation on that.”

On McGuire’s red card, he said: “He said something but I’m still not entirely sure what it was.

“I need to find out more about that one because to be honest, I’ve no idea at the minute. We’ll get to the bottom of that one.

“We don’t really have any evidence of what’s been said at the moment. We’ll find out during the week.”

Another new signing in Sam Kasiano was not seen after the break after coming on for 20 minutes during the first half.

Powell confirmed he is being troubled by a knock but that there is no major concern surrounding the big New Zealander.

“He’s had a bit of a hip flexor issue through this week but I don’t think it’s going to be too much of an issue,” he said.

“Hopefully he’ll be okay.”
