JAMES Harrison will be absent from Warrington Wolves’ final days of pre-season before the Christmas break.

The prop forward, who signed a new two-year deal with the club last week, has picked up a minor knee injury during training which has required a scan.

As it stands, his is the only fresh injury concern following the first month of training and head coach Daryl Powell insists the issue is “nothing serious.”

He says the 26-year-old is on track to be able to train fully when the squad regathers in the new year.

“James Harrison got a little bit of a knock on his knee,” he said.

“He’s had a scan and he’ll be out for a couple of weeks, but he’ll be able to come back in pretty much straight after Christmas.

“It’s nothing serious, but he’s got a little bit of an issue with it.

“Apart from that, everybody is bang at it. We’ve got good numbers now which we didn’t really have at this stage last season.

“A lot of people were either playing internationals or recovering from operations so numbers were minimal, but that’s not the case this year.”

Aside from Harrison, there are only three squad members not currently training fully.

Prop Joe Philbin and outside back Connor Wrench are continuing their recoveries from ACL surgery, with the former expected to only miss the early rounds of 2023 while Wrench is not expected to return until May.

Half-back George Williams is currently recuperating after being ever-present in the England side that reached the Rugby League World Cup semi-finals and will report back to the club in the new year.

After six weeks of training, the squad will pause their pre-season preparations next week for the festive period.
