TOMORROW sees the new Cheshire Football League season get underway.

Warrington will once again have three teams in the competition’s top tier as Eagle Sports, Daten and Greenalls PSO take their places in the Premier Division.

The latter two are in action tomorrow and are both on the road, with Greens visiting Lostock Gralam while the Atoms are at Middlewich Town.

On Wednesday, a Warrington derby with Greenalls at Thornton Road gets Eagle’s season underway.

Having finished fifth last season following a fixture pile-up that saw them play 15 games in just 42 days to finish the campaign, joint-managers Danny Nixon and Richard Chinn are confident they have it within their squad to challenge for their first ever CFL title.

“I don't think we were far away from the league's top sides in terms of squad and quality by the end of the season,” Nixon said.

“We were playing catch up from a bad spell in September and October and then the last run of games was just ridiculous really.

“However, we stuck together and came out with some good results over that period.

“This season gives me and Chinny our first full season together and we've had a really good pre-season overall so as a club, we are confident that we can have a real go at the league and cups this year.

“We've added some good lads to an already strong squad and the lads are pushing each other to raise the performance levels in training and the games.

“As a club, we pride ourselves in being a great place to enjoy playing football and we certainly feel the squad is as close as we have ever been, so we are ready for a big year.”

Indeed, another of Eagle’s first fixtures is against Daten on August 10 and it looked for a while as if the Culcheth-based side would be lining up in League One this time around.

They finished last season inside the relegation places alongside Billinge, but a points deduction for Knutsford sent them down instead and earned the Atoms a reprieve.

Further down the pyramid, Moore United line up in League Two having been relegated this year and open their season up with a trip to St Michaels DH on Tuesday.
