KEEPING Hull FC to ‘nil’ will no doubt boost the confidence of a Warrington Wolves defence that has been alarmingly slack through most of the season.

It is the first time they have ‘nilled’ an opposition in almost two years, the last occasion being a 36-0 win over Wakefield Trinity in August 2020.

However, is said defence about to come up against one of the stiffest examinations Super League can offer on Sunday?

While the table may not suggest as much, the attacking stats tell a completely different story.

They may only be above The Wire on points difference in the table, but Salford Red Devils are among the big-hitters when it comes to point-scoring.

Only the competition’s top three sides – St Helens, Wigan Warriors and Huddersfield Giants – have scored more points than Paul Rowley’s side this season, with 365 in their 16 games resulting in an average of just under 23 per game.

It is a similar story in terms of tries scored, with only the top three having crossed the whitewash more times than Salford’s 65.

Those numbers were boosted by their emphatic 74-10 victory over Wakefield Trinity in Sunday – a game in which they picked up the largest ever winning margin and most amount of points scored in a single game in their Super League history.

It marked an emphatic return to form for Rowley’s side, who had lost back-to-back games before the weekend.

They will also be keen to avenge a 32-18 suffered at Wire’s hands when they last visited The Halliwell Jones Stadium back in April.
