“WE’VE got a great opportunity and it’s one we need to take.”

As the second half of their Super League season begins, Warrington Wolves will be keen to dispel the first 13 games to the deep recesses of their memory bank.

That process begins this evening against a side on a similar journey to their own in Leeds Rhinos.

Two sides striving to get faltering seasons back on track to make a run at the play-offs meet at The Halliwell Jones Stadium to see who has made best use of their latest two-week break.

For Wire, their performance in defeat to St Helens last time out raised spirits both inside and outside of the camp.

Now, they must build on those foundations.

“Confidence is a big thing in sport, for individual players and for teams as well,” head coach Daryl Powell said.

“It has given us some more confidence and belief. I’ve been through the second half of our season with the boys and had a good look at what we’ve got coming up.

“I just think we’ve got a real good opportunity to kick on from that performance, grow our game and win games consistently.

“Our next block of games is massive for us, starting this week against Leeds.”

Aiming to stop them achieving what they aim for is a Leeds Rhinos side trying to get used to the ideas of new head coach Rohan Smith.

His two games since taking over from Richard Agar have brought a win over Wakefield Trinity and a defeat at Salford Red Devils.

They will leapfrog The Wire with victory but in order to do so, they must do something they are yet to do in 2022 – win away from Headingley.

All nine of their points – courtesy of four wins and a draw – have come on home soil and while his side own a victory over the Rhinos this season, Powell admits he is not entirely certain what to expect.

“Obviously, they’ve got a new coach and look a little bit different – it’s hard to know exactly how different at the moment,” he said.

“The team’s changed a fair bit.

“I watched their game against Salford and Richie Myler was at full-back and Zak Hardaker played in the centre, then last week Hardaker plays full-back and Myler at half.

“It’s a new coach trying to find his best team so they’re chopping and changing a fair bit.

“Are they doing much different? Probably not too much at this stage but you’d expect that to start to develop.

“It’s difficult to pick exactly what they’re going to look like.”
