UNDER 15s runner Lewis Shaw underlined his number one UK ranking when his 80m hurdles personal best in the recent Trafford Medal meet equalled the Warrington Athletics Club record.

The record of 11.10 seconds was set by Ashley Kirsopp 11 years ago, a time which puts him into the top 30 all time in the UK.

This achievement puts Lewis, who is coached by Neal Petley, into the top 30 of all time in the UK.

In the same race running against the boys was under 17 Evie Schofield (Trafford AC), who is second claim with Warrington, who finished 3rd in a personal best time of 12.12 seconds.

Also a second claim member at Warrington is Evie Elliott (Bury AC) who finished 4th in her race over 75 metres hurdles with a time of 12.44 seconds.

The two Evies are also coached by Neal Petley.

Meanwhile, the first round of the Youth Development League for under 13s and under 15s took place at Robin Park Wigan on Sunday with many of the Warrington Athletics Club team competing at this level for the first time.

All performed well, with many achieving personal best performances.

Individual winners came in both age groups, male and female, while top 30 UK places were achieved achieved by three, and one produced a top 10 place.

Some athletes took part in events they had never tried before, just covering events to score some points for the team.

In the under 15s boys age group, Jake Sands, making his debut for the club, won the hammer with a throw of 23.48 metres which although early season was in the top 10 throws in the UK so far.

Jake also took second place in the discus with 21.18 metres and the shot putt with 7.95 metres.

Also in the under 15 boys Lewis Shaw, UK number 1 ranked, won the 80 metres hurdles into a strong wind in 11.6 seconds and also the 100 metres in 12.8 seconds.

Lewis was also 3rd in the javelin with a throw of 26.68 metres.

Caleb Adelani continues to show good form with wins in the 200 and 300 metres, with times of 25.1 seconds and 39.8 seconds respectively, with the 300 metres time being a personal best and top 30 UK time.

In the discus Elliot Taylor won the B event with a throw of 10.85 metres and William Kenwright won the B shot putt with 5.49 metres.

In the 1500 metres Jacob Pryor and Sebastian Hampson won the A and B events with times of 4 minutes 39.7 seconds and 5 minutes 20.5 seconds respectively.

In the girls under 15s age group there were two victors with Imogen Wharton and Esme Heavey winning the A and B races in the 1500 metres with times of 4 minutes 54.9 seconds and 5 minutes 08.7 seconds respectively.

In the under 13s age group there were three winners, all coming over 1200 metres as Euan Lawton and Isaac McGuffie won the A and B boys races with times of 4 minutes 01.2 seconds and 4 minutes 05.6 seconds respectively with both times being in the top 30 UK times so far this season.

In the girls race Sophie Parkinson won the B race with a time of 4 minutes 31.4 seconds while in the A race Eva Hayes finished 3rd in 4 minutes 16.0 seconds.

Warrington Athletic Club’s Katie Lowery, who is studying at Edinburgh University, took part in the Scottish 5K Road Race Championships held at the Sri Chinmoy Self Transcendence race a Silverknowes Esplanade, Edinburgh, on Friday, running for the University Hare and Hounds Club.

She finished in 8th place with a personal best time of 17minutes 13 seconds.

Katie also collected the team gold medals along with team mates Sarah Calvert (2nd) and Rhiannon Kirk (17th) for a total of 27 points ahead of Lasswade 53 points and Corstorphine 63 points.

Trafford Athletic Club held their first Distance Grand Prix of the season on Tuesday with six Warrington Athletics Club athletes taking part and all recording personal best times.

In the under 15s age group 800 metres Jacob Pryor and Imogen Wharton ran in the same mixed race with Jacob winning in a big personal best time of 2 minutes 15.87 seconds and Imogen finishing in 3rd place also with a big personal best improving on her time from the previous Sunday by 7 seconds with 2 minutes 18.25 seconds.

In her race Esme Heavey finished 6th with a personal best time of 2 minutes 27.74 seconds.

In the open 800 metres series under 17 Lucie Davies improved her personal best time to 2 minutes 25.66 seconds as she finished 4th in her race.

In the 1500 metres series under 17 Ben Pucill who had not raced the distance for three years smashed his previous best time by 41 seconds as he finished 4th in his race with a time of 4 minutes 22.28 seconds.

Under 17 Alice Nicholson finished in 3rd place in her mixed male/female race with a new personal best time of 5 minutes 06.85 seconds.

Master athlete Louise Blizzard took part in the Wrexham Elite Half Marathon where she recorded a time of 1 hour 32 minutes 31 seconds to finish in 77th place.

Louise was the oldest woman in the race and as the only over 45 woman won the age group.

That followed Blizzard recording her first win in a race for women for a long time as she finished in 24th place overall in the Run Through Tatton 10 Kilometres road race with a time of 42 minutes 33 seconds, winning the women’s section of the race and also being first over 45 woman.

Three Warrington Athletic Club athletes took part in the British Universities Championships held at Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre.

Rachel McQuillan (Leeds Beckett University) and Olivia Baker (Edge Hill University) took part in the same heat of the women’s 800 metres, finishing in 5th and 7th places with times of 2 minutes 20.22 seconds and 2 minutes 30.19 seconds respectively but did not progress to the next round.

Jack Wadsworth (Northumbria University) ran in the men’s 1500 metres heats finishing in 11th place in his race with a time of 4 minutes 14.06 seconds and did not progress further.
