WITH the season now down to its final stages, the message from Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley remains the same.

Yellows are in control of their own play-off destiny with four games of the campaign remaining, but the squad are being urged to take it one game at a time.

Having moved up to fourth in the Northern Premier League Premier Division table with a win at Basford United in midweek, Town will finish third and secure a home play-off semi-final if they win all of their remaining four fixtures.

Given they are yet to win more than two league games in a row throughout the campaign, however, that would appear to be easier said than done.

Visiting Cantilever Park today are Stafford Rangers, who are not completely out of the play-off race themselves after a superb turnaround in fortunes.

Having battled relegation in recent years, the Marston Road men arrive boasting the division’s best away record having taken 34 points on their travels this season.

Furthermore, only league leaders Buxton have conceded fewer goals than Rangers this season, and Beesley knows they will be a tough nut to crack as they aim to avoid a third consecutive home defeat.

“They’re a good team and have done brilliantly this year,” he said of today’s opponents.

“Hilly (Matt Hill, Stafford manager) has got them going to a great level compared to where they have been for the past two years.

“They are quite direct but it has got them success, so we need to be ready for it.

“We’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves. I know it’s boring and a cliché but we’ve got to make sure we’re doing the right things.

“That means preparing right, giving lads rest when we feel they need it and rotating when it’s right to rotate.

“We’ve got four big games coming up and anybody can beat anybody else.

“Saturday is tough and then you’ve got your Bank Holiday double-header, so there’s plenty still to come.”

Town do not appear to have any fresh injury concerns following their midweek exertions, with top goalscorer Jordan Buckley and on-loan full-back Lewis Coulton the only likely absentees as both nurse hamstring problems.

Beesley’s ranks have been boosted by the return to fitness of left-back Eddie Clarke, who made his return to the starting line-up at Basford after nearly six months out with a groin injury.

“He’s a very good player, we all know that,” Beesley said of Clarke, who scored the winner as Town beat Stafford 1-0 in the reverse fixture back in August.

“We pushed the boat out to get him in the summer when Paul (Carden, former Yellows manager) was in charge because we know his quality.

“He helped us on Tuesday – he did tire a bit which is understandable given the length of time he’s been out, but it will do him good.”

Today’s game kicks off at 3pm.
