WARRINGTON Town bounced back from their weekend defeat by securing victory at Basford United this evening.

Josh Amis scored the game's only goal after just five minutes, lifting an excellent finish beyond Basford keeper Kieran Preston.

Town's win moved them up to fourth and allowed them to extend their cushion inside the Northern Premier League Premier Division play-off places to four points.

WARRINGTON Town needed a response, and they got one.

After a pretty lifeless display on Saturday, it was crucial they lifted the pressure on themselves with victory here and in the end, they finished the evening in a superb position.

Winning individual games has never been a problem, however, and now once again they will bid to string together some good results to secure their play-off spot.

While still in a scrap for fifth, they can perhaps now afford to cast one eye further up the table as victories in all four of their games that remain will see them finish third and secure home advantage in the play-off semi-finals.

Games in hand are only valuable if you make them count and thanks to Josh Amis’ assured early finish, Town did just that.

It was the finish of a man in form – lifted delicately over a half-committed Basford goalkeeper – and with Jordan Buckley struggling with a hamstring injury, much of the goalscoring impetus between now and season’s end is likely to fall upon the big target man.

While he fed off scraps in the second half, his hold-up play before the break set up platforms for Yellows to largely dominate.

Mark Beesley raised eyebrows with his team selection, particularly the omission of Matt Regan – many people’s player of the season – in favour of Eddie Clarke, who was making his first appearance in nearly six months following a serious groin injury.

However, the left-back put in a performance that suggested he has never been away and was a constant thorn in the home side with his direct running down the left flank.

Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and Ben Hough were also brought in and gave Town more of an edge going forward as for the first 30 minutes, their gameplan was working perfectly.

Basford eventually got to grips but even despite largely controlling possession, they never truly threatened the Town goal.

It has been said many times over the past few months but it is critical Town now push on and really drive home the position they are in.
