WARRINGTON Town remained on course for a play-off spot by beating Radcliffe this afternoon.

Stefan Mols' goal on the stroke of half-time put Mark Beesley's side on course for victory before substitute Jack Mackreth sealed victory late on.

The result means Yellows remain in the final play-off spot, two points clear of nearest challengers Whitby Town.

EVEN without taking into account results around them, Warrington Town simply had to win this game.

Momentum is an oft-used buzzword at this time of the season but if they are to seal their play-off spot, they certainly do need it.

The consistency of result and performance is what has separated them from the likes of Buxton and South Shields, who are fighting it out at the top of the table.

This will be the start of their latest attempt at going on the kind of winning run that will see them skipping into the end-of-season shake-up in good form and with confidence high.

First and foremost, however, this was about leaving Greater Manchester with the job done.

They may not have stretched beyond third gear at any particular point, but they still had more than enough to see off a limited Radcliffe side.

There is never a bad time to score in a football match, but the arrival of Stefan Mols’ well-taken opener on the stroke of half-time was a huge bonus for Mark Beesley’s side.

They had largely controlled proceedings but at that point could perhaps have considered themselves fortunate not to be behind, with ex-Yellow Simon Lenighan and lively winger Luca Navarro wasting very presentable opportunities for the hosts.

Operating in the number 10 role, Mols put in an encouraging all-round display which saw him work hard to hassle an uncomfortable-looking home defence while adding sprinklings of the quality he has often exhibited on the ball.

He has that X-factor and capability of breaking a game open with a single pass or run. Surely he has to feature heavily if this run to the end of the season is to be a successful one.

Behind him, the defence largely blunted the hosts and were relatively untroubled, with Evan Gumbs in particular marshalling dangerous frontman Jean-Louis Akpa-Apro expertly.

In short, this was a job well done for Town but now, as has been the case on so many occasions this season, the task is to ensure this is not an isolated result.
