A STERNUM injury is keeping Ben Currie out of the Warrington Wolves side to face Toulouse Olympique tomorrow.

In his pre-match press conference, head coach Daryl Powell confirmed Currie played through the problem against Castleford Tigers last week before coming off during the second half.

He is expected to be back to face Catalans Dragons next week, with Jack Hughes to start in the second row in his place.

On Currie, Powell said: "He’s not too bad. He played last week with a sternum injury which hampered him during the game and he came off.

"We decided that he needed more time to recover.

"They are pretty difficult injuries to get over and I thought he struggled in the game – I probably would have brought him off a bit earlier if I had my time again.

"I think he’ll be okay for next week – we’ve got some big games coming up and I want him to be 100 per cent."

Having scored the winning try against Leeds Rhinos in Round One, Wrench missed last week's game after aggravating a back injury in training.

Scans have since revealed a stress fracture which is set to keep him out for up to five weeks.

"It’s obviously disappointing for him as he played against Leeds and looked sharp," Powell said.

"We’ve got Toby (King) available but I’m disappointed for Connor and I’m looking forward to seeing how he grows through the year."

Powell also indicated that loose forward Billy Magoulias’ Wire debut will have to wait a little longer as he is yet to resume running following ankle surgery.

The new signing from Cronulla Sharks was targeting a return in Round Four or Five but that now looks set to be delayed further.

"Billy is a few weeks away yet – probably around four or five weeks," Powell said.

"He’s got to get back fit as well.

"He hasn’t run yet but he’s got his boot off and is doing a fair bit of work with the physios and conditioners, but he’s going to need to get himself ready and primed to play.

"That will take a little bit of time."
