THE hard work is about to begin for Warrington Wolves.

On Monday, new head coach Daryl Powell will assemble his squad for pre-season training as they begin their preparations for the 2022 Super League season.

Most of the first-team squad are expected to return to the club’s Padgate training base in time for the first session, barring a few exceptions

Half-back Gareth Widdop will report back slightly later as he has been allowed to return to Australia to spend time with his family.

The club are hoping new signing Billy Magoulias will be able to join the group at some point during the coming week – it is understood they are waiting for the loose forward’s visa to come through so he can travel to the UK.

Players who have had post-season operations will not be taking a full part in training, with the likes of Daryl Clark, Stefan Ratchford, Toby King and Matt Davis among others due to complete their recoveries next month.

Pre-season will include a training camp in the new year but while previous seasons have seen them travel to the likes of Portugal and Tenerife, they will be based in the UK this time around.

Friendly matches, including full-back Stefan Ratchford’s Testimonial match, are still to be confirmed.

Their preparations begin 87 days before the start of the new Super League season, which gets underway on February 10, 2022.
