JAKE Mamo has enjoyed a season beyond anybody’s expectations.

Ominously, however, Warrington Wolves head coach Steve Price believes there is more to come from the in-form Australian centre.

Wire fans will of course be hoping that extra gear comes before the end of the season, with Mamo leaving the club to join Castleford for next year.

If he continues his current form, he may well do so as Super League’s leading try-scorer.

Two tries against former club Huddersfield Giants last night took him to 14 in the competition this season and saw him jump above Hull KR winger Ryan Hall to lead the try-scoring charts.

He was only denied a first-half hat-trick by a superb try-saving tackle from Huddersfield’s Chris McQueen, who was then sin-binned for denying him a quick play-the-ball.

After another superb display by the popular outside back, Price was effervescent in his praise.

“He’s a strong lad and is really enjoying his football this year,” he said.

“He’s been great for us all season and I still feel there’s a bit more to come from him.

“He’s been one of the form centres of the competition I feel and defensively, I’ve been really pleased with him too.

“It was a shame he couldn’t get the hat-trick but it was a good display for him.

“We love what he brings – he brings that X-factor and high energy that we want.

“It’s important he keeps doing that and becomes the best player he can.”

Given his form, the decision to allow Mamo to join the Tigers next year has come in for criticism from supporters.

He will effectively swap places with Castleford’s Peter Mata’utia in 2022, with the Samoan international being brought to The Halliwell Jones Stadium by incoming head coach Daryl Powell.

On the decision to let Mamo leave, Price said: “That’s a question for the new coach coming in.

“I can answer about what Jake Mamo has brought to our club this season and I love everything about him defensively and offensively.

“He’s got speed and speed is hard to buy in today’s game. I’m stoked I’ve got him this season to work with.”
