SEVEN gold medals were won by Warrington Athletics Club members at the Cheshire Championships over the weekend.

Two of them went to Caleb Adelani, who dominated the boys' under 13 sprint events by claiming gold in both the 100m and 200m events.

On Saturday, Chris Stanford won gold in the senior men's 5,000m while Megan Kettle won the senior women's hammer with a throw of 36.36 metres.

Evie Schofield – a second claim Warrington AC member – also won a gold medal in the under 15s girls' 75m hurdles at the championships held in Ellesmere Port.

There were three Warrington golds on Sunday – Adelani's second win saw him joined on the top step of the podium by Rachel McQuillan (senior women's 800m) and Ben Woods (boys' under 13s shot putt).

There were plenty of silver medals too as Sophia Rowlinson (women's under 20s 100m), Evie Schofield (girls' under 15s 100m), Thomas Darbyshire (boys' under 13s 75m hurdles), Zak Chamun (boys' under 15s discus and javelin), Ellie Barker (girls' under 13s 150m) and Lisa Halliday (women's under 17s 300m hurdles) all came second in their events.

Bronze medals were won by Ben Woods (boys' under 13s 1,500m) and Dave Gill (senior men's 100m).

Meanwhile, Lewis Shaw won medals at two separate championships including two at Saturday's Merseyside Championships.

Competing in the high jump for the first time in two years, the under 15s athlete came away with a bronze medal and a personal best of 1.45m.

Then, in his preferred 80m hurdles event, he won gold in 12.45secs.

A week earlier, he won bronze in the same event at the Northern Age Group Championships in Hull, clocking 12.42secs despite running into a very strong wind.

At the same meet, Lisa Halliday finished fifth in the under 17s 300m hurdles in 49.80secs while also running into the breeze.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Brandon Quinton enjoyed an excellent debut over 5,000m in Nottingham at the 5,000m Track Challenge.

The under 20s athlete ran excellently to finish fourth in 14mins 48.49secs, which ranks him 15th in the UK for his age group.
