TWO second-half goals ensured Warrington Rylands 1906 took maximum points from their inaugural Northern Premier League West game, beating Leek Town 2-0 at Gorsey Lane.

Rylands dominated possession throughout an open encounter in which both sides created numerous chances to keep a 204 strong crowd entertained.

Dave McNabb's men started quickly with Leek captain Darren Chadwick cutting out a dangerous cross from Milne in the fifth minute, while a few minutes later his goalkeeper Danny Roberts saved well to keep out a Ste Milne effort.

Leek, one of the title favourites having been top of the ladder when each of the last two tables were curtailed, hit back sending a low cross flashing across the face of Rylands' goal just out of the reach of Will Saxon sliding in at the far post.

The visitors were forced to try and counter attack as they were being pushed back, and delivered a few crosses into the Rylands box which goalkeeper Graeme McCall dealt with.

Leek’s best chance of the first half fell to Tim Grice who burst his way through two defenders but shot over the bar.

Both Milne and Charlie Doyle went close with efforts which were just off target while Doyle and Luke Sephton drew fine saves from Roberts.

Kane Drummond fired a free kick from the edge of the area just over the crossbar after he had been brought down when clean through on goal.

Leek started the second half on the offensive with McCall having to tip a Grice shot over the bar in the opening minutes.

Saxon went close with an angled drive and McCall saved bravely at the feet of Mark Grocot as the visitors were starting to get on top.

The deadlock was broken in the 69th minute.

After good build-up play by Milne, substitute Owen Robinson slipped the ball to Joe Coveney, who, after receiving the ball on the edge of the area, manufactured a yard of space allowing himself room to calmly curl the ball into the net.

In search of a second, Rylands continued attacking with Doyle, Milne and Coveney all going close before Chadwick almost equalised heading against the bar from a fee kick.

Racing onto a long ball played over the Rylands defence Saxon was denied a shooting opportunity by a perfectly timed tackle by Mike Simpson in the 80th minute.

Roberts pulled off two decent saves in the later stages of the game to keep out shots from Robinson and George Hassall, but was unable to prevent substitute Adam Buxton from doubling Rylands' advantage and sealing a deserved win in the 90th minute.

Roberts saved a low shot from Milne, but his clearance was intercepted by Buxton and the Rylands debutant coolly chipped the ball over the stranded keeper from 25 yards.

Warrington Rylands 1906 are back in action again on Tuesday when they visit Newcastle Town for their second NPL West fixture, before traveling to Prestwich Heys on Saturday in the FA Cup preliminary round.
