GARETH Widdop has been added to Shaun Wane's England squad.

The Warrington Wolves half-back has been in superb form this season, scoring eight tries in 10 games, which has led to calls for an international recall.

Now, he is one of four players added to Wane's squad that will prepare for the autumn's Rugby League World Cup alongside Wakefield's former Wire star Joe Westerman, his Trinity teammate Reece Lyne and Catalans winger Tom Davies.

Part of those preparations will be a match against the Combined Nations All-Stars at The Halliwell Jones Stadium – a game for which Wane will announce his squad on Wednesday.

“I watch every Super League game, every week, and the door is always open to players who are performing," Wane said.

"I’ve been impressed in recent weeks by what I’ve seen from these four players and the data we have on them backs that up.

"They are consistently hitting the performance levels required at the highest level.”

Widdop joins Wire teammates Daryl Clark, Ben Currie, Mike Cooper, Toby King, Joe Philbin and Stefan Ratchford in the extended England group.
