WARRINGTON Rylands will play in a unique "Non-League Super Cup" fixture during pre-season.

The newly-crowned FA Vase winners will travel to face Hornchurch – the team who won the FA Trophy on the same day at Wembley – in a game organised by the Pitching In Trident Leagues, of which both clubs are members.

The game takes place on Saturday, August 7 – one week before Blues' first ever season in the Northern Premier League starts – at the Essex club's Bridge Avenue home ground.

Rylands boss Dave McNabb says the game against the Urchins, who ply their trade one tier up from them in the Isthmian League Premier Division, is exactly the kind of test they need to round off their pre-season campaign.

"It’s an excellent opportunity for us," he said.

"It is a pre-season game but with a trophy on the line it will mean that little bit more.

"For them to come back after a long break and win the FA Trophy – similar to us with the Vase – was a superb achievement and it will be a big test for us.

"It’s exactly the kind of test we would want in the last stages of our pre-season. It will allow us to go into the season as well prepared as we can be."

Blues have already confirmed a home friendly against FC United of Manchester at Gorsey Lane on Tuesday, July 6, will form part of their preparations for their first NPL West Division campaign.

Their full pre-season schedule will be revealed in the coming days.
