THE big Warrington Wolves selection call for tomorrow's Super League clash with Huddersfield Giants at The Halliwell Jones Stadium in front of fans is who replaces Jack Hughes.

There are options available to head coach Steve Price in the first absence of the season of his captain, but there are no second rowers named in the 21-man squad other than the other regular in the role, Ben Currie.

Here's a reminder of the 21-man squad: Sitaleki Akauola, Blake Austin, Rob Butler, Josh Charnley, Daryl Clark, Jason Clark, Mike Cooper, Ben Currie, Matt Davis, Chris Hill, Greg Inglis, Toby King, Tom Lineham, Jake Mamo, Robbie Mulhern, Joe Philbin, Stefan Ratchford, Nathan Roebuck, Josh Thewlis, Danny Walker, Gareth Widdop.

Sports editor Mike Parsons predicts the Wire line-up for the 7.45pm kick-off:

Steve Price has said they will adapt to fill the vacancy left by Jack Hughes for this encounter.

And he will have to.

Three of his back rowers are currently out on loan, Ellis Robson at Widnes Vikings plus Connor Wrench and Ellis Longstaff at Newcastle Thunder.

Either a forward who has spent the majority of his Wire career playing down the middle as a prop or loose-forward will have to play wider, or Price can switch one of his centre options into the role.

Price will have a number of considerations, as in the man he feels can help to marshal the right-hand side defence in the way that Hughes does and do all the little essential selfless acts that are the skipper's trademarks.

But also, with key Huddersfield playmaker Aidan Sezer likely to be defending on that side The Wire will want a running threat that can keep the visiting number seven busy in a bid to take the sting out of his attacking threat.

Of the regular forwards, Matty Davis and Jason Clark are the men with the likeliest attributes for second row though Mike Cooper and Rob Butler have done their dues there in the past.

Second row also is not alien to Toby King and Greg Inglis, the two Wire players on everyone's lips at the moment, which is the expected way Price will go.

Moving either of those will allow for the return of fit-again Stefan Ratchford at full-back and give Price a way of having his current strongest 17 on the field which includes Blake Austin keeping his spot in the halves after an improved display when he stepped up from 19th man as a last-minute replacement for Ratchford in the last outing against Hull KR.

And Josh Thewlis should have done enough that day to keep his place on the wing and keep Tom Lineham on the outer despite his availability again after suspension.

Daryl Clark also came through training well in the week to suggest he has shaken off the pectoral injury he suffered against the Robins.

Predicted Wire 17: Stefan Ratchford; Josh Thewlis, Jake Mamo, Greg Inglis, Josh Charnley; Blake Austin, Gareth Widdop; Chris Hill, Daryl Clark, Mike Cooper, Toby King, Ben Currie, Jason Clark. Subs: Matt Davis, Joe Philbin, Robbie Mulhern, Sitaleki Akauola.
