LATCHFORD Albion produced an emphatic start to their competitive season on Saturday.

In what was their first league game in over a year, Martyn Ellis’ side were 46-8 winners at Haydock as the North West Men’s League campaign got underway.

The hosts taking the lead midway through the first half sparked Albion into life with full-back Alex Davies opening their account before second rower Matty Nash crossed twice to give them a 12-point lead at the break.

Matty Rudd gave the visitors the perfect start to the second half after taking a pass from Jamie Birchall, who had latched onto the tryscorer’s initial clever chip.

After a second Haydock try, a Matty Ellis interception try extended Latchford’s lead before Charlie McCurrie added two quickfire scores.

An emphatic victory was wrapped up when Dylan Kelly forced his way over.

In Division Three, Crosfields A got off to a flier with a crushing 63-6 victory at Wigan Bulldogs but Woolston Rovers A lost 30-4 on the road at Salford City Roosters.

Burtonwood Bridge were 14-0 up in their Division Four game at Newton Storm when a serious injury to a Newton player forced the game’s abandonment.

Division Five South and East saw Burtonwood Chargers beat Runcorn 26-6.
