WARRINGTON Wolves Women suffered defeat in their Betfred Women’s Super League debut against Wigan Warriors.
In their long-awaited first hit out at the top level, the Wire started brightly but found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline early on.
Wigan’s experience proved vital in the afternoon’s proceedings as Rachel Thompson’s try opened the scoring for the Warriors.
Four first half tries from Georgia Wilson set the afternoon on the way for Wigan as Vanessa Temple also crossed in the opening 40.
The Wire then got themselves their very first points in Super League through the impressive Georgia Sutherland.
Victoria Molyneux crossed either side of the break to stretch the Warriors lead before Temple added her second and Wilson scored her fifth try of the game.
Amy Daniels battled her way over the try line for Wire’s only score of the second half before Rebecca Greenfield sealed the win for the Warriors.
Lee Westwood's side now switch their attention to the Challenge Cup and a meeting with Huddersfield Giants on Sunday, kick off 12pm.
