COLIN Wood had a cracking catch of quality roach from Worthington Lakes at Arley.

He fished his session with a slider at 25 yards using both red and white maggots.

I spent a couple of hours at Grey Mist checking cards and chatting to members.

Some had caught the odd tench and one angler had managed five of the beauties on red maggot.

Ade Green was back on Easter Monday determined to better his recent visit and was rewarded with a tench twosome of 6lbs 14ozs 0drs and 7-10-0, the latter just 2ozs light of his PB.

He was using a groundbait feeder with hair-rigged fake red corn and red maggot.

Another member landed a mirror of 20lbs during the same session.

Mike Pritchard changed his allegiance from the Bridgewater Canal where he normally fishes his Saturday sessions to Statham Pool.

He caught bream, hybrids, and roach mainly on waggler and red maggot, a few on pinkie, but fish showed little interest in casters.

Peter Lang caught his roach during a recent session on the Bridgewater Canal with a different tactic, fly-fishing.

Also fly-fishing, but on the River Alyn for trout on Sunday, Ian Doyle had a decent catch of grayling.

There has been a lot of riverside tree-work carried out recently but the fishing doesn’t seem to have been impacted and his session was even more enhanced by the presence of kingfishers, dippers, wrens, and mallards. Our bailiff team at Wigan report that the fishing at Mowpin is average for this time of the year for crucians, rudd, and the occasional carp.

On D and C, a few chub have been showing up recently in catches but good sport for silvers.

On Easter Monday our Disabled and Over 60s match was on our Woodshaw Reservoir fishery contested by 16 anglers fished in chilly conditions.

Veteran match-man Neil Buist was the winner with 4-14-0. He caught a brace of crucians plus roach using both feeder and pole with maggot on the hook.

George Hollis took second place with a weight of 4lbs exactly made up of half a dozen roach plus two bonus crucians caught thirty minutes before all-out; all on pole at 10metres and maggot.
