STEVE Price has taken charge of 91 matches as Warrington Wolves head coach.

Of those games, 56 have seen The Wire come out victorious – a win rate of 61.5 per cent.

Guardian sports reporter Matt Turner has been there for most of them and here, he picks out Wolves’ top 10 victories under Steve Price so far…

10. WIRE 48 LEEDS 12 – Challenge Cup semi-final, August 5, 2018

This was a game Warrington were favourites for, but they still had to deliver – and deliver they did.

Bolton’s Macron Stadium was turned into a sea of primrose and blue as close to 8,000 Wire fans roared their side on to an ultimately dominant victory.

Tom Lineham scored two long-range beauties while Josh Charnley joined him in bagging a brace as the Rhinos wilted in the blistering sun.

Kevin Brown, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Toby King and Bryson Goodwin joined the scoring as The Wire secured a return to Wembley Stadium.

9. WIRE 80 HULL FC 10 – Super League Super 8s, August 30, 2018

The cards were really stacked against The Wire on this one having been asked to play just five days after a bruising Challenge Cup Final loss to Catalans.

However, they proved that a wounded animal is the most dangerous one of all with a stunning dismantling of Hull FC.

Bryson Goodwin starred with five tries – equalling a club record – with Toby King and Josh Charnley scoring twice each.

Jack Hughes, Joe Philbin, Tyrone Roberts, Tom Lineham and Stefan Ratchford completed a 14-try demolition job to provide the perfect tonic for their Wembley heartache.

8. CATALANS 0 WIRE 26 – Super League, March 17, 2018

The game that truly launched the Steve Price era?

Warrington had endured an indifferent start to life under their new coach, with four defeats from their first six games.

A loss in France would have made it three defeats on the spin but in the Perpignan squall, they pulled something special out of the bag.

Ben Murdoch-Masila (twice), Mitch Brown, Daryl Clark and Harvey Livett all crossed while Wire became the first side to prevent Catalans from scoring at home in Super League.

7. LEEDS 22 WIRE 33 – Super League, May 4, 2018

On Star Wars day, the force was certainly with The Wire in this rip-roaring contest at Headingley.

22-11 down against a resurgent Rhinos side being backed by a vociferous crowd, Price’s men produced a sensational comeback to grab victory from the jaws of defeat.

Harvey Livett lit up the game with a hat-trick, with further scores coming from Kevin Brown, Ryan Atkins and Ben Murdoch-Masila to send the Wolves fans gathered on the Western terrace into hysterics.

6. WIRE 22 HULL FC 14 – Challenge Cup semi-final, July 27, 2019

A game Wire came into in dire form and one observers said could have gone either way.

As it turned out, Wolves saved their best for the big occasion – and not for the first time.

They were edging a tight contest in rainy Bolton but they could not quite shake the Black and Whites off after tries from Bryson Goodwin, Ben Currie and Toby King.

When Joe Philbin kicked through after a Hull error to touch down in the final minutes, though, the party could well and truly begin.

5. WIRE 23 WIGAN 0 – Challenge Cup, June 2, 2018

An occasion to remember at the Halliwell Jones as the old enemy were hammered and sent packing with tails between legs.

Only two weeks prior to this, the Warriors had picked up a convincing 38-10 win over Wire at Magic Weekend – what a way to bounce back!

Kevin Brown, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Josh Charnley and Declan Patton crossed to mark a performance bristling with intent and punch.

4. HULL 12 WIRE 63 – Super League, March 29, 2019

The night Blake Austin announced his arrival in Super League.

He had caught the eye with his early displays in a Warrington shirt but this night showed what he could really do as Wire pummelled a helpless Hull.

The Aussie stand-off scored four tries, with Josh Charnley grabbing a hat-trick which otherwise would have been the headline-grabber.

Tom Lineham crossed twice on his old stomping ground, with Daryl Clark and Ben Murdoch-Masila completing the rout.

3. WIRE 19 ST HELENS 0 – Super League, February 6, 2020

One to look back on and wonder what might have been in the season just gone.

Having gone down bravely with 12 – and at times 11 – men at Wigan the previous week, this one showed what this side was capable of with a full compliment.

The HJ was bouncing as Saints were sent packing, with Daryl Clark, Tom Lineham and Josh Charnley scoring tries.

The only disappointment was that it was to prove the high point of a season that promised so much.

2. ST HELENS 13 WIRE 18 – Super League semi-final, October 4, 2018

“Lineham’s through one…Lineham’s through two…Lineham gets the try!!!”

The awkward hug between Steve Price and Steven Broomhead, the image of Ben Barba crying into the Totally Wicked Stadium and the scenes of celebration in the away end.

Another game in which Wire beat the odds and stunned runaway League Leaders’ Shield winners Saints on their own patch in the Super League semi-finals.

Lineham’s double and a Jack Hughes effort edged a tight affair in Wire’s favour as they punched their ticket to the big dance.

1. ST HELENS 4 WIRE 18 – Challenge Cup Final, August 24, 2019

Could it really have been anything else?

The Wire were written off in pretty much every quarter going into this one, given their awful form, Saints’ dominance of Super League and Blake Austin’s ankle injury.

What followed was a genuine “I was there” moment as Price’s men rammed the critics’ words down their throats.

Joe Philbin and Ben Murdoch-Masila struck in quick succession before the break and it was nip-and-tuck all the way until Lance Todd Trophy winner Daryl Clark sealed it at the death to spark jubilant scenes in the primrose and blue end of Wembley.
