IT turns out Greg Inglis has some family on the doorstep as he settles into life in England.

However, that family is likely to be lining up against him in some key battles during the 2021 Super League season.

Inglis revealed in his first media session since joining up with the Warrington Wolves squad that Bevan French – Wigan Warriors’ electrifying full-back – is a distant relation.

Covid restrictions mean the two cannot catch up in person for the foreseeable future – something Inglis hopes can change sooner rather than later.

However, he hopes French stays well away from him on the field when The Wire meet their near neighbours.

“We’re related as distant family on my father’s side,” the 34-year-old said.

“He’s quite nifty, crafty and quick. I hope he doesn’t run down my side and stays on the other side!

“I would have loved to catch up with him sooner rather than later but it is what it is with Covid.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him as a familiar face.”

Warrington Guardian:

Inglis will be hoping he has a similar impact to his relative in his first year in Super League – French lit up the competition in 2020 but ended the year by making a critical mistake to allow Jack Welsby to score the dramatic winning try in the final seconds of St Helens’ Grand Final win over the Warriors.

If the Queensland and Australia great does make the same kind of dent in the league, it may well be that he has some four-pointers to toast.

With that in mind, has he brought his famous ‘Goanna crawl’ try celebration with him?

“It depends how wet it is – over here the Goanna could turn into a slug that crashes into a fence,” he joked.

“We’ll wait and see how it goes, but I’ll do my best.”
