ANOTHER Warrington Wolves youngster has moved to the north east for 2021.

Back rower Cole Oakley has been confirmed to have joined newly-promoted Championship side Newcastle Thunder for the upcoming season.

He joins Wire teammate Samy Kibula, who signed a season-long loan deal at Kingston Park last week, in Newcastle for 2021.

Oakley – a former Bridgewater High School student who played his junior rugby for both Rylands Sharks and Woolston Rovers – came through The Wire's academy and was named on the bench for the first team's Super League clash with Salford Red Devils in September but did not make it onto the field.

The 20-year-old is impressed by his new club's ambition as he looks to secure regular first-team rugby league.

“I’m looking forward to a fresh start with a new team," he told the Thunder's official website.

"Newcastle are a quality side and I’m thankful that I’ve been given the opportunity to keep doing what I love and to represent the club and the fans.

“The ambition and set up is as good as any other and I’m looking forward to representing the city and to help the team in every way that I can.

“The coaches have made some quality signings for next year and the set up of the club echoes its ambition and I feel very proud to be representing such a big city.

“We have got a great bunch of lads and hopefully we can have a successful 2021 together.”
