AS three Warrington-based teams became among the first in the country to return to competitive league football on Saturday, the occasion was marked with an eight-goal thriller at Thornton Road.

The Cheshire Football League got back underway at the earliest possible opportunity, with Eagle Sports, Greenalls PSO and Daten all in Premier Division action.

Eagle played out an entertaining 4-4 draw with FC St Helens, with Luke Sutton and Danny Hutchins each scoring twice for the hosts.

Greenalls kicked off their campaign on a winning note, with Ben McWilliams' goal enough to secure a 1-0 victory on the road at Egerton.

Unfortunately, Daten could not follow suit – the Atoms were beaten 2-0 at Congleton Town reserves on the opening day.

Moore United shipped eight goals in their League One opener as they lost 8-3 at Ashton Athletic reserves while Rylands reserves lost 4-2 to their counterparts from St Helens Town in League Two.

Reserve League One saw Eagle Sports win 2-1 at FC St Helens while Daten drew 2-2 against Billinge. In League Two, Moore United won 4-0 against Daten's development team.
