AFTER a summer which saw them change their name and assemble an impressive-looking squad, Warrington Rylands 1906 kick off their season tonight.

Their North West Counties League Premier Division campaign may not start until next month, but Dave McNabb’s side have a tasty-looking FA Cup extra preliminary round tie this evening.

They make the short trip across Cheshire to take on 1874 Northwich – the one side to finish above them in a coronavirus-curtailed 2019-20 season.

With both sides likely to be among the favourites for promotion this time round, tonight’s game represents a chance to land an early psychological blow as well as gaining some valuable FA Cup prize money.

Should they come through this tie, Blues will host Northern Premier League side Clitheroe in the preliminary round on Saturday, September 12.

In an attempt to ease pressure on an already congested schedule brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, replays have been scrapped in this season’s FA Cup.

Should tonight’s game finish level after 90 minutes, it will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

The match kicks off at 7.45pm.
