WARRINGTON Town picked up their first victory of pre-season on Tuesday night.

Second-half goals from Josh Amis, Jack Mackreth and Jordan Buckley earned Paul Carden's side a 3-0 victory at North West Counties League side Irlam.

New signings Evan Gumbs, Joel Amado, Craig Carney and Charlie Munro started at Silver Street, with Callum Grogan coming off the bench in the second half.

Munro put in an impressive display in a deep-lying midfield role while Gumbs and Matt Regan - signed by Town just before last season was curtailed - formed a promising-looking partnership in defence.

Yellows were full of creativity and the Irlam defence was sliced open regularly, but they could not find the finishing touch.

Having beaten the home goalkeeper to a short backpass, Amis had an effort cleared off the line while Jack Dunn hit the post.

Those problems were put behind them, though, when Amis opened the scoring just after half time.

The big striker almost had a second as he slid in to meet Dunn's cross. He was denied by the keeper at point-blank range but Mackreth was able to bundle home the rebound.

Substitute Buckley rounded off the scoring late on, controlling a cross from the right before finishing across the keeper.
