TWO former Warrington Wolves hardmen will square up in the boxing ring in a huge fundraiser for Rob Burrow and Mose Masoe.

Nathan Wood, 48, and Brendon Tuuta, 54, will go toe-to-toe in one of many humdinger fights in the Rugby League Rumble event taking place on Friday, October 30.

Another ex-Wire star, Paul Wood, will also be featuring.

Warrington Guardian:

Former Leeds Rhinos, England and Great Britain scrum-half Burrow, 37, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in December.

And ex-St Helens, Hull KR and Samoa prop Masoe, 30, suffered a career-ending spinal injury in January.

Australian Nat Wood, New Zealander Tuuta and Wiganer Paul Wood have decided to put the gloves on because they want to do their bit to help.

Tuuta, who played 20 games for Wolves in 1998 at the end of a career that also included time spent with Featherstone Rovers, Castleford Tigers, Western Suburbs, Western Reds and the Kiwis, seemed to be at war every time he walked on to a rugby pitch, had a reputation as a brawler and never took a backward step.

Warrington Guardian:

Nat Wood, a Wire fans favourite who made 96 appearances in primrose and blue between 2002 and 2005, has a boxing history and famously let rip on Bradford Bulls hooker Jimmy Lowes in one game at Odsal.

And Nat, renowned as a bit of a joker too, said on his Facebook page: “Oh well Jimmy Lowes has Refused to fight me so now I’m Fighting this Absolute Warrior “the baby faced Assassin” Brendan Tuuta.

Warrington Guardian:

“As a young bloke I always hoped I would one day get to square up on him for what he did to the Kangaroo players!!

“Funny how life works hey? I know he is a Proper HARDMAN So this will be a Very Nice test for us both!”

Wire assistant coach Lee Briers played alongside both players and Tweeted: “These are by far the hardest two players I ever played with. Wow this is gonna be some fight.”

The packed card of charity boxing at Leeds First Direct Arena will also see Paul Wood, 38, who gave The Wire 14 years of fantastic service and famously played on with a ruptured testicle in the 2012 Grand Final defeat to Leeds Rhinos at Old Trafford, step into the ring against retired Tongan ex-Hull winger Fetuli Talanoa, 32.

Other confirmed fights include Chev Walker vs Andy Wray, Danika Priim vs Rhiannon Marshall, Steve Pryce vs Craig Booth, Shaun Kenny-Dowall vs Elijah Niko, Weller Harauki vs Gareth Hock, Dave Peterson vs Liam Hood

Tickets are on sale now from the First Direct Arena website.
