RHIANNON Dixon lives in two worlds that are poles apart.

By day, she works on the wards at Whiston Hospital but outside of that, she is flying the flag for women’s professional boxing in Warrington.

The 24-year-old from Great Sankey turned pro last year and has won her first two fights on points, with her next contest looming large on the horizon.

Considering she only took up boxing for fitness, it has been quite the journey.

“I work full time as a pharmacist in the week,” she explains.

“I get up at 5am to go training before work and then I train straight after work and at weekends.

“I only started boxing three or four years ago to get fit and lose weight, but I soon fell in love with the sport and haven’t looked back since I started sparring in the gym.”

Dixon fights at lightweight and trains in Wigan at Blundell’s Boxing Gym.

The former St Gregory’s High School student also became the first woman to sign with VIP Boxing Promotions ahead of her paid debut last September.

Since then, she has gone on to spar with Team GB Olympic boxer Natasha Jonas and Commonwealth super welterweight champion Stacey Copeland.

Dixon does come from quite the sporting family – her brother Andrew is a regular in the Toronto Wolfpack side in Super League while her brother-in-law is another Warrington-born Wolfpack player, half-back Joe Mellor.

“With the way women’s boxing is, it’s on the rise but there isn’t as many female boxers as there are male boxers,” she said.

“I’m hoping to be fighting for a title this year or next.”

However, Rhiannon also explains why she is hoping to make an impact outside the ropes.

“I’m an ambassador for Gloves up Knives Down, which is a social enterprise committed to supporting young people living in communities affected by knife crime by providing access to boxing training to help them lead fulfilling and healthy lives away from crime,” she said.

Dixon’s next fight is on Saturday, March 21, at the Bolton Whites Hotel and you can follow her progress via her Instagram page @rhiannondixonboxing.
